The pandemic has forced many of us into isolation, away from friends and family. Sapiens seem to have adopted several lifestyle changes during this unprecedented (psychological) crisis. One prominent change (as reported by Pornhub) is the burgeoning consumption of online pornography.
A study by David Rodrigues and Joana Martins looked at the effects of pornography use in a population from Portugal (N=301). Firstly, participants reported decreased libido since the outbreak, but also greater willingness to have sex (go figure!).
Watching porn with one’s partner was associated with better sex quality and satisfaction. Joint pornography use was also associated with increased intimacy with a partner, better physical health, and better sleep quality.
Solitary pornography use was similarly associated with better physical health and sleep quality but, it affected relationships adversely by reducing sex-life quality.
